We decided to interview our PE teacher, Mrs Le Grand, who organized this walk with her 5ème students.
When did you start this walk for the first time?
Mrs. Le Grand said that they started the second week after we were no longer allowed to use the sports facilities, around the week of January 25.
What does this project consist of?
“Firstly, to become aware that human beings pollute, and that this waste takes more or less time to degrade in nature. Many of them end up in the ocean. But also to see what kind of waste is more outside and how much,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
Why with the 5ème and no other students?
“Rather than having them in class, I preferred to take them outside with Mr. Coroller's class who was in the same situation.” “However, this project has expanded with students in 6ème and other teachers,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
Do you have a specific tour?
Mrs. Le Grand said that unfortunately yes, they always pass at the same place on the banks of the Erdre because it's safe, there are no cars. The journey is done in two steps.
How do you collect garbage, and where do you put it afterwards?
“Each student is provided with a cleaning glove for ideal or otherwise disposable and about 3/4 garbage cans.” “Then, we put them in the college garbage cans.” “We’d have liked to weigh our waste but we don't have a scale,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
On average, how much waste do you have?
“We use the blue garbage bags that the city of Nantes distributes to us and we easily recover two full bags according to the voluminous waste,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
Did you find any rather strange objects?
Mrs. Le Grand said that not really, there were mostly cigarette butts and bottle caps.
What do you think of the students' opinion of this march?
“There are two different reactions, one part of the class is really into the project, they’re happy, it's like a treasure hunt for them but the others seem less aware and take the opportunity to talk, they’re not very active,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
Do you plan to do such a walk again in the years to come?
“No I don't think so, we will do the program requested. It doesn't fit into the PE program but it was a good opportunity,” said Mrs. Le Grand.
