The new Statue of Liberty

by Jasmine Gavaland

France has decided to send a new Statue of Liberty to the United States, 135 years after the inauguration of the first one, to strengthen the Franco-American friendship. The statue is smaller than the first one, 2.83 meters high. It will arrive on July 4th for the Independance Day in New York. The statue left the port of Le Havre on June 7th. She will be welcomed for a while on Ellis Island, at the American National Museum of Immigration and will be in front of the great Statue of Liberty located on Liberty Island. Later, she will be seen in the garden of the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. Philippe Etienne, the French ambassador to the United States, said that "It will be visible to everyone from the street". Everyone will be able to admire it. It will remain only 10 years in Washington because the “Conservatoire du Quai d'Orsay” has just lent it. When it returns to France, it will symbolize even more the link between Washington and Paris.
