The City of Ember (Jeanne DuPrau) by Léo

The City of Ember, in French La Cité de l’ombre, is a novel published in 2003 by the American writer Jeanne DuPrau. It’s the first book of a novel series named The Books of Ember, composed of 4 novels : The City of Ember (2003), The People of Sparks (2004), The Prophet of Yonwood (2006), and The Diamond of Darkhold (2008). The City of Ember was adapted in a well-known film.

The story is about Lina and Doon, two teenagers who live in a city dug underground. We are told that it’s the only city in the world. But is it really true? Lina believes that an another city also exists, she has seen it in her dreams. One day, she discovers a message that seems to explain how leave this town…

I like this book because there is very much suspense, you can’t stop reading it. It is a real page-turner. It’s more than a novel, it’s an adventure.

The City of Ember is considered as one of the best books of science-fiction ever!
