Who is Steve Potts ?
Steve Potts is a saxophonist who avoided fame on purpose. He went all around the world and listened to all the different language music which is how the words are pronounced. He finds that the countries with the least musical history are the ones who struggle the most.
He was born the 21st of January 1943 in Columbus, Ohio. His childhood in segregation was very difficult because everyone was racist and he couldn't walk back from school to home without being called racial slurs.
His father like in a family tradition, took Steve and his brother to see the rest of their family in the south and they could realize that segregation was way worse in other parts of the United States. In this trip, young Steve learnt lots of things and became more grateful.
Steve wanted to become a saxophonist since his youngest age when he saw his older cousin play . He was first scared of the saxophone because he found it weird because music notes didn't come out of it like in the cartoons.
When Steve grew up, he and his family moved to Los Angeles and he started studying in a big school. He met Charles Lloyd who helped him a lot in starting his musical career by introducing him to Count Basie Orchestra, a band who moves around a lot. He moved all over the United States and learned a lot of things. He later began doing concerts all around the world with Chico Hamilton Orchestra. He was in a train near Paris and he was reading the newspaper when he found out that his cousin was holding a concert in Paris so he went to see him. He met up with him and they were really happy. Steve later decided that he would stay at Paris where his music was appreciated.
